The Katestone Edge

Katestone Environmental are experts in air quality impact assessment and boundary layer meteorology. We also extend our coverage to some aspects of climatology and forecasting, and any area that is strongly dependent on meteorology, climate, or air pollution management and control. We strive for excellence in these areas but the Katestone Edge lies in....

We are innovators: when conventional methods fail, we develop alternatives.

We revel in newer areas and where conventional approaches have difficulty. We have a strong track record of applied research and development. We are early (but considerate) adopters of new technology and often apply many alternative approaches to increase the confidence in results, conclusions, and the way forward.

We develop and maintain in-house software to provide more efficient, flexible, and useful tools for time-series data analysis than is available in publicly available software packages, and to address problems where off-the-shelf software is inappropriate.

We have wide exposure to alternatives to deterministic modelling (e.g. laboratory studies, time series analysis, artificial intelligence techniques).

We have strong R&D experience and have developed good contacts with research groups in Australia and internationally.

We are skilled and enthusiastic Scientists, Meteorologists, Programmers, and Engineers.

The Katestone Environmental staff are of long standing and are used to working co-operatively. We encourage staff development and regularly attend national and international conferences and workshops relevant to our work.

Katestone Environmental deals with a wide range of groups for industry, government, and community spheres, both in Australia and internationally. We act as expert witnesses in a variety of court cases - our background ethos is to provide advice that will withstand any critical scrutiny.

We solve problems

We believe passionately in a comprehensive data-driven approach to modelling, data analysis, incorporation of results into design, planning, management, proactive forecasting of air quality and meteorological events. We provide a well rounded and practical approach to problem solving.

We have a proven track record in applying our skills to associated fields such as animal heat stress forecasting, atmospheric corrosion, and demand forecasting.

We are specialists in air pollution from the electricity industry

Katestone Environmental has extensive experience in assessment of power station developments within Australia and internationally. The sheer size of some power stations and the diversity of air pollutants that can be emitted (particularly coal fired power stations), means that these can be some of the most challenging air pollution issues.

We keep everything, securely

We have a very extensive library with 25 years of papers/reports all indexed and readily retrievable.  We maintain extensive databases of measurements and simulations, and have often acted as a safe depository of meteorological and air quality information for many external organisations - they change in structure/staff, we maintain our course!

We care about the outcome

Finally, but importantly, our technical and administration support team have been together for over a decade and foster good relationships with clients and other organisations. We strive to continue improving, to maintain a viable and profitable company, and to be providing similar and better services in the next decade.
