Gladstone Airshed Modelling System

In 2001, the Queensland Environment Protection Agency (EPA) commissioned Katestone Environmental to provide a modelling tool that could be used to assist air quality management in the Gladstone State Development Area (GSDA). Through this process Katestone developed a set of evaluation procedures and tools known as the Gladstone Airshed Modelling System (GAMS) released in 2002.

“Since 2002 similar airshed modelling systems have been developed for Townsville and the Brisbane Ports area.”

GAMS utilised the most recent airshed modelling tools, TAPM and Calpuff and provided a powerful framework to allow new industrial sources to be assessed for regional air quality impacts using a consistent methodology. Since 2002 similar airshed modelling systems have been developed for Townsville and the Brisbane Ports area.

The Queensland Government, through the Department of Infrastructure, has committed to maintaining the modelling system with regular updates to the models and emissions inventory. Katestone Environmental is custodian of the GAMS and undertakes industrial development scenario modelling for the Government.
